FELTING SKILLS: FELT HAT WORKSHOP
Instructor: Tammy L. Deck Each student will design and make their own felted hat on a three-dimensional form. This is not a knit and shrink technique! Prior experience in felt making is needed, please consider taking our Beginner's Purse class. NO KNITTING, CROCHETING OR FELTING NEEDLES are used during this process!! All materials and equipment supplied.

An ancient method of creating fabrics that has become popular again. Learn this fun, unusual process

fabric. During Tammy's 3-hour workshop, each student will make
an envelope style purse (learn to use a "resist") that includes several
color and surface design pattern techniques.

GLASS WORK: BEGINNER'S FUSINGInstructor: Tammy Deck Students will get a great introduction to the process of fusing glass during this 1 session class. Glass cutting will be taught, glass varieties and COE will be discussed, kiln use will be covered. Students will be shown how to build their own set of dichroic cabochons (1 pair for earrings and 1 larger for pendant) ready to begin firing by the 30 minute break. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in the kiln control and watch the full-fuse firing through the viewing window of our kiln. After the break, students will build a larger, pendant piece which will include a resist to create a horizontal stringing channel ready to be fired at by the end of class (all fused pieces may be picked up the Wednesday after class). Materials and tool use provided through class fee. The cabochons created may be used in metal clay work, beaded over, wire wrapped or bezel set in one of our other classes. Smaller cabochons may simply be glued to earring posts or a pendant bail to create instant jewelry. Or, take our Metals 2 class to learn how to set your cabs in silver!

Hat Making: Making a Hat from Jinsin
Instructor:
Jenny Pfanenstiel of Forme Millinery
Jinsin is a form of Bamboo found in Australia. It is an expensive millinery material to import, so it is not seen often in the USA. Jinsin can be a delicate material, so we will learn how to gently wet and steam it in order to manipulate it. I will also demonstrate how you can print on and alter the Jinsin to give it a completely different finish. Once a shape is created, we will then make it into a hat to wear. Jinsin will be provided. Students are to bring needles, thread, pins, scissors, thimble, a variety of thread colors, a spray bottle for water and a towel. Prerequisite: Students must know how to hand sew.

bracelets by instructor JEWELRY ARTS: BEGINNERS WIRE TWISTS & BEADED LINKSInstructor: Patty Pulliam This class introduces the beginner jewelry student to the basic wire twist link that is a building block for most jewelry art assemblage. Students will learn how to make a collection of links and dangle components using head pins, eyepins and straight wire and then proceed to learn how to connect them for earrings, bracelets and necklaces or choose to make a charm bracelet. Regardless of your choice this class will offer the repetition needed to gain skill at professional looking wire wrapping. Projects may include one-of-a-kind lampwork beads, Bali silver beads, charms and Swarovski crystals (purchased separately). The bead obsessed will enjoy this class since we put a heavy dose of design strategy into our beading classes that will take students beyond the "cookie cutter" approach and challenges each participant to create their own wearable art. A lunch break is built into the class time. Bring your magnifying glasses if needed and task lighting if desired. Beads and tools are available for purchase from the Design Center. This class may be scheduled one-on-one or for a private party with your friends!
