FIBER FUSION HAT SCULPTING
&
MOLDING
Learn the art of fiber fusion for the
purpose of hat sculpting/making during this 2 session class. Hand-Dyed Bamboo
fibers will be layered and bonded into a shimmering, permanent, paper- like
fabric (water resistant). The resulting hats are lightweight, artsy and
certainly one-of-a-kind. The first day is spent preparing our hat blocks, laying
out the fiber, applying the bonding medium and draping/sculpting on hat blocks.
We allow them to dry over night before releasing them, finishing and
embellishing.

pin or attach to a handband or elastic for a

All base materials (wool, yarn, feathers, pin back and a small selection of beads) provided... students may
bring a collection of beads (their own lampwork if they have them) just in case there is something extra

Each student will design and make their own felted hat on a three-dimensional form. This is not
a knit and shrink technique! We are exploring traditional wet felting methods using un-spun, loose
fiber to create the base of the hat which allow us to include different surface design elements inlaid
within the structure. Prior experience in felt making is needed, please consider taking our Beginner's Purse class.
NO KNITTING, CROCHETING OR FELTING NEEDLES are used during this process!!

HAT MAKING: FLAT FELT MAKING FOR CONSTRUCTED HAT DESIGNS
Instructor: Tammy Deck Click here to learn more about Tammy
An ancient method of creating fabrics that has become popular again. Learn this fun, unusual process that by-passes spinning and knitting and capitalizes on the natural attributes of animal hair fibers to bond together in the formation of a "non-woven" fabric. During Tammy's 3.5 hour workshop, each student will design and make a flat piece of felt designed to be used in a cut and sew hat creation.
