Immerse yourself in 3 days of introductory level bead stringing and head pin wrapping techniques to get a jump start on your new found addiction... beads!!! This class will start you off with the bare-bones basics via single and triple strand beading projects and progress you into more challenging, larger work. Five to six different projects (suitable for gift giving!) will be possible (some evening homework may be required) so that each student can learn professional finishing methods that are often overlooked by other "quickie" class structures. The projects are not cookie cutter style, which means each student will also be learning to coordinate and design their own work from scratch. Students will learn about the different types of beads, stringing materials, findings and tools available on the market (available for purchase from us) and which combination is best suited to different beading art projects. Students will use design center tools during the class.

This class introduces the beginner jewelry student to the basic wire twist link that is a building block for most jewelry art assemblage. Students will learn how to make a collection of links and dangle componants using head pins, eyepins and straight wire and then proceed to learn how to connect them for earrings, bracelets and necklaces or choose to make a charm bracelet. Regardless of your choice...this class will offer the repetition needed to gain skill at professional looking wire wrapping. Projects may include one-of-a-kind lampwork beads, Bali silver beads, charms and Swarovski crystals (purchased separately). The bead obsessed will enjoy this class since we put a heavy dose of design strategy into our beading classes that will take students beyond the "cookie cutter" approach and challenges each participant to create their own wearable art. We will be working straight through... so feel free to bring snacks to keep your energy up. Bring your magnifying glasses if needed.

This technique creates a great, contemporary looking rope suitable for necklaces as it is quite supple and strong. Great for a lariat, choker or bracelet, it has a little give to it due to the crochet stitches. Lampworkers love this rope to showcase special beads and pendants. Once finished, you can hardly see the thread! Students will learn a spiral pattern which makes it easier to see the stitches. Other design variations will be discussed.
Students must already be very comfortable with basic crocheting stitches when they take this class (learn how to crochet in our beginner's class).
The materials are simple: size 6 seed beads in 3 or 6 colors (available for purchase at TLD), and size 8 crochet cotton thread. Bring your reading glasses and, if you have them, magnifying glasses to this class since the beads are tiny!

We'll show you how to work up a pattern and select colors as well as choose between regular seed beads and delicas. Techniques on how to read from a flat peyote pattern will be discussed as well as finishing techniques for a bracelet. Students will get a good start on a bracelet or finish a small sampler.

This is not a cookie cutter class! All students will come out with a completely different piece of art. Peyote stitch beadweaving can create wonderful, tidy, geometric forms. But did you know that you can use the same stitch to make a freeform, undulating shape as well? This technique uses small amounts of several sizes of beads to create a one-of-a-kind bracelet. Students will start out by developing a theme and design rather than following a pre-existing pattern in a different color palette. We’ll discuss how to choose beads that compliment each other in palette and texture. Student will be encouraged to add in found objects as well as fibers. Great for using up "bead stew." Some bead stitching experience is preferred, so consider taking our our basic peyote stitch class.
Students should bring basic beading tools & supplies to class including 8-12 different kinds of beads: sizes from 8-11 plus a few accent beads, Cabochons or fused glass pieces, a button or larger bead for a clasp. Beads and tools are available for purchase from the Design Center.

This class is a great introduction to bead knitting for students that already know very basic hand knitting stitches and how to cast on/off (take our knitting I & II classes). On day one, students will get a great start toward making their own heirloom quality knitted, beaded "mad money" purse based off of Victorian designs. On Day two, students will shape the flap, sew the seams, create the neck-strap and embellish... with more beads, of course! The great thing about these is that they look hard but are actually very simple and students would still have ample time to create several more in time for gift giving. The wire wrapped beads take no time at all, even though they look highly complicated. The wrapped wooden bead, a great project for the beginning beader, can either use a single type of bead, or can use all your odds and ends. For students who prefer a more arranged-looking bead, the peyote covered bead can be either left with a smoothly beaded surface, or beads can be sewn onto the beaded bead for a little bit of overkill. We have to warn you that you might stay up all night doing these, and the possibilities can look highly arranged or very random!

Since reading from the round peyote pattern is tricky, Hanna will spend considerable time with that.
