You want to learn to weave... but find the bigger looms a bit intimidating? This is "real" weaving on a "real" loom. You'll find scarves in our gallery woven by Tammy on our rigid heddle looms (we defy you to discern the difference!). During this 3 session class, students will learn how to plan a scarf or table runner project, measure the warp threads, thread the rigid heddle, wind on and start weaving! Take the loom home for one week to weave your project... come back for the third session to learn how to remove it from the loom and several finishing options.
Project materials and loom use are included in our class fee. Already have a rigid heddle loom? Bring it to class and we'll credit you $20. Looms available at the studio for separate purchase as low as $125. This class may be repeated for 10% savings.

During this 4 session series, students will learn how to drape their own fabrics on a provided dress form. This is especially useful for one-of-a-kind fabrics that have surface design work or a different drape than factory produced goods. Students will go on to draft a pattern and may proceed into cutting and construction of their original design. Various finishing methods will also be discussed and demonstrated. Very strong sewing skills and an understanding of garment construction is needed. Class size is limited to 4.

Using ribbons, learn the basics for an off-loom three directional weaving technique. Each student will weave their own sample piece (approx 5" x 5") stabilized and ready for personal use. The resulting fabrics may be used for accent panels, mixed media assemblage work... or even jewelry designs. After class, students will find themselves inspired to go on to create a multitude of designs based alternate color placement. During this 2 session class, students will create a charming amulet necklace using all those odds and end yarns you've got stashed (and some of ours). During class 1, students will create their color scheme and decide if they want to create a tapestry design, learn how to warp a cardboard loom and begin the needle weaving process which creates the seamless little bag. The majority of the weaving will be homework that night. Bring the woven pouch to Class 2, to learn how to line the purse, several strap options and go on to trim the piece with beads, buttons and charms. No previous weaving experience is needed. Basic hand sewing skills are suggested. Materials list provided upon registration. Samples are on display (or may be purchased) in our gallery.

An inkle loom is an easy loom to set up and very portable if you travel. This loom is designed for weaving
narrow projects such as the ones mentioned above. Bring your own loom (or rent from the studio for
$5 per week), heddles (or a strong string to make heddles), scissors, and a shuttle. Yarn for your
project is included in class fee. Looms are also available for purchase from the Design Center.

may be done on an inkle loom or a table loom. Inkle looms may be rented from the design center for $5 a
week or purchased starting at $75. Please consider taking our introduction to inkle weaving class prior
to this one.
