Instructor: Tammy Deck

Students will work on pre-dressed floor looms and receive instruction on basic loom operation and support throughout the weaving process.  Each person will  be encouraged to weave from a place of exploration and  intuition, designing  their "Thrumori" at the loom.  "Thrumori" is Tammy's term for a textile woven by recycling "Thrums" (weaver's warp ends previously considered discards) New weavers  have free-choice from our eclectic fiber collection of colors and textures (including ooak hand-painted and metallic ends) all included in the class fee.    Basic class is 5 studio hours and the piece is removed from the loom for you unless you'd like additional sessions to weave a longer textile. You may decide near the end of your session.

Possible use for your Thrumori textile include: art hanging, lumbar or decorative pillow front, quilt piecing, garment panel (cuffs, collar, lapel or waist banding), envelope purse or mini tote, table runner, art neck scarf, waist sash/belt

Additional weaving sessions (2 hour increments  for $15ea) are available day, evening or weekends scheduled with Tammy.  This Weaving project may be repeated as many times as you like and may be Scheduled with 3 other friends (phone Tammy at 630.963.9573) and BYOB if you like!  Instruction, materials and loom rental all included in the flat class fee.

Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving for Beginners

Instructor: Tammy L. Deck

You want to learn to weave... but want a more portable project...or you find the bigger looms a bit intimidating? This is "real" weaving on a "real" loom. You'll find scarves in our gallery woven on our rigid heddle looms (we defy you to discern the difference!). During this 2 session class, students will learn how to plan a scarf project, measure the warp threads, thread the rigid heddle, wind on and start weaving! Take the loom home for one week to weave your project... come back the next week and learn how to remove it from the loom and several finishing options.  Session 1 meets from 10 to 4 (w/break)  Session 2 meets 10 to 12:30

Project materials and use of a loom are included in our class fee.  Looms available at the studio for separate purchase as low as $150 (receive a $10 discount when you purchase a loom during class). This class may be repeated for 10% savings.

Own your own rigid heddle loom and wish to use it in class? Schedule a $10 assembly/functionality assessment prior to class.
